Our Environmental
Practices

The following is a list of actions we’ve taken, and daily practices we adhere to, which help illustrate our commitment to conducting business with minimal environmental impact.

  • FSC and SFI certification (see below)
  • Re-using paper whenever possible and recycling paper when it can no longer be re-used
  • Encouraging clients to use recycled papers as well as papers made from sustainable resources whenever possible
  • Using only vegetable based inks
  • Installing a CTP plate setter in 2001, eliminating the need to use film which contained silver and mercury contaminants
  • Using water based, alcohol free fountain solutions in all of our presses
  • Using low VOC (volatile organic compound) solvents
  • Recycling aluminum printing plates
  • Installing all new low-energy fluorescent lighting throughout the printing plant and offices in 2003
  • Recycling un-usable/expired inks
  • Recycling all plastic film materials used in packaging and shrink-wrapping
  • Ink Sentinels manage ink distribution on press to maximize efficiency and minimize waste

By buying products with the FSC, SFI, and Rainforest Alliance labels you are supporting the growth of responsible forest management worldwide

What is FSC?

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable way.

Any product made of pulp or paper has the potential to be certified as long as the wood used in the product originates from FSC-certified sources. In order to use the FSC logo as an “environmental claim” on paper, the product must have flowed through the FSC “chain-of-custody” from the FSC-certified forest, to a paper manufacturer, merchant and finally a printer who all have FSC chain-of-custody certification.

What is SFI?

Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is an independent certification program formed by the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), and run by the Sustainable Forestry Board.

The SFI Program provides rigorous environmental standards and performance measures that integrate the protection of our environment with the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees, and the protection of wildlife, plants, air and water quality. The SFI program is based on the premise that responsible environmental behavior and sound business decisions can co-exist.

As a participant in the SFI program, Bridgetown is a part of a growing community of companies, land-owners, and social and environmental organizations all committed to improving forest practices on a global scale. We are proud to be a participant in one of the world's fastest growing forest certification programs, and invite you to take part in promoting the benefits of SFI certification to your target market.
